"To gain your own voice, you have to forget about having it heard."
-Allen Ginsberg
Expression is what makes us human. Some people are gifted with an innate ability to communicate verbally, some are gifted with an artistic mode of expression which dazzles, and some are gifted with the ability to meld and bend words to do their bidding. Regardless of your gifts, no one should feel as if writing well is an unattainable goal. Not everyone may enjoy writing simply for writing's sake, but everyone can wrangle their own language to express themselves well. In this course, we will focus on many different forms of writing, for many different audiences and purposes. We will try our hands at poetry and prose, we will work on improving your timed-writing skills, and we will also focus on the academic essay. All of these types of writing are helpful in life, but your academic writing skills, especially your research-based skills, will be of extreme importance in the post-secondary setting, and therefore will receive more weight.
